What Is Exegesis Biblica?
Exegesis Biblica is the Online Encyclopedia of Sacred Scripture — a complete verse-by-verse Catholic Bible study library covering all 73 books of the Catholic Bible in Spanish, English, and Portuguese. CHAPTER I — Isaiah 6:8
“Here am I. Send me.”
His Father’s Bible
Jorge Carrasco grew up watching his father read the Bible every single day. His father was a man of deep faith — a man who marked his Bible, who followed every cross-reference, who prayed without ceasing. Jorge watched. But he did not follow.
For years, Jorge refused God. He rejected Him — not once, but many times. He built houses for a living with his hands. He was a man of the world — practical, grounded, not given to spiritual things.
Then his father died.
Jorge picked up his father’s Bible. He opened it. He saw the markings — the underlines, the notes in the margins, the verses circled with a trembling hand. Something happened that Jorge could not explain. One verse led to another. One book led to another. The entire Bible began to speak — not through commentary, not through a theologian’s interpretation — but through itself. Scripture explaining Scripture.
That night, Jorge Carrasco fell to his knees and prayed:
“I don’t know You. I feel You are a God for just some people — not for all. But if You are real — show me.”

God showed him.
The Call — Isaiah 6:8
What Jorge encountered in that Bible was not a religion. It was a conversation — a living dialogue between God and man across 73 books, 90,000 verses, spanning thousands of years. He began to see what no commentary had ever shown him: that Scripture explains itself. That every verse points to another. That the Torah points to the Prophets, the Prophets point to the Psalms, the Psalms point to the Gospel, and the Gospel points back to Genesis. This is the core of Catholic biblical exegesis — and it was unfolding before him in his father’s marked Bible.
And then he came to Isaiah 6:8:

Isaiah did not wait to be qualified. He did not wait for a title, a seminary degree, or an institution to authorize him. He heard the question — Whom shall I send? — and he answered before he knew where he was going.
Jorge Carrasco recognized himself in that verse. He was not a priest. He was not a theologian. He was a general contractor. But he heard the same question — and he gave the same answer.

The Rejections
Jorge Carrasco applied to become a deacon in the Catholic Church. His priest said no.
He brought his Catholic biblical exegesis library to Barnes & Noble. They offered him $1 of every $17 sold. He walked away.
His wife saw the rejection. She looked at him and said: “Keep your faith. Always.”
He kept going. Because Isaiah did not ask whether the people would listen. He just said yes.

52,000 Hours of Verse-by-Verse Bible Study
Jorge Carrasco is a builder by trade — a general contractor who builds homes for other people for a living. Every weekday he worked construction from early morning. Every evening, from 6pm to midnight, he opened his Bible and continued his verse-by-verse Bible study. Every Saturday, from 7am to midnight — 16 hours straight. Every Sunday after Mass, another 15 hours.
100+ hours per week × 52 weeks × 14 years
= 52,000+ Hours
Given to God. Freely. Without salary. Without title. Without recognition.
He funded every hour of this work through his construction business — the same hands that built homes for others built the most complete Catholic biblical exegesis library ever assembled by one person. No vacation. No salary from the mission. No institutional support.
The Mobile Home and the Printing Machine
Jorge Carrasco knows how to build a house. But he could not build his own — because every dollar that could have built it went into the mission. Unable to afford a regular rental, he moved his family into a senior mobile home in Florida — not because he failed, but because he chose the mission over comfort.
In that mobile home, he set up a small printing machine and a cover machine. He learned to print his Sacred Scripture books in full color for $3 per book — so that monks with no income, seminarians with no funds, and rural communities with no internet could hold the Word of God in their hands. Verse by verse. In print. For $3.
The Hurricanes
Florida brought hurricanes. Not once — twice. The storms came to his door. Jorge Carrasco did not leave. He stayed at his desk, Bible open, printing machine running. The hurricanes passed. The biblical exegesis continued.
Three Months in a Jail Cell — The Harvest in the Most Unlikely Field
What was supposed to be three days became three months. Jorge Carrasco found himself in jail — and instead of asking why, he opened his Bible. Every morning at 6am, every noon, every evening at 6pm, he walked the cell block reading Sacred Scripture aloud.
A Muslim man watched him. Day after day. Finally he asked: “What are you reading?”
Jorge showed him the Book of Psalms — the Psalms of King David. The man was thirty years old and had never read them. He had carried the Quran all his life — the very book that declares “to David We gave the Psalms” (Surah An-Nisa 4:163) — and no one had ever shown him those Psalms. Not once in thirty years.
Together they read Isaiah 53 — written 700 years before Jesus — and the Muslim man recognized the one his own Quran already named: Al-Masih — the Messiah — Jesus, son of Mary. There was also a Jewish man in that cell. Jorge shared the Psalms with him too — and in the intimacy of confinement, the Jewish man saw what the Psalms of King David had always been pointing toward.
